3. Improve security and get cheaper car insurance
Where
you live could affect your premium - car insurance
companies take into account the statistical risk factors
of postcode areas. However, you don't have to do
something as drastic as to move house to reduce your
insured risks. The first thing to look at is your
car's security systems. Fitting extra security to your
vehicle could lower your car insurance premium. Does
your car have an approved alarm system? Thatcham-approved alarms are recognised by all
car insurers and most will discount your premium if you have these fitted.
If you keep your car in a garage, inform your insurance
company. Your car is less likely to be stolen,
vandalised, or struck by other vehicles, locked up in a garage
(or parked on a drive) than if it is left on the street.
Many car insurance companies acknowledge this reduced
risk and would lower your premium accordingly.
